Like many places in the world, many Muslims in the Gujarat State of India live in poverty and are unable to help their children reach their true potential both in worldly or religious education. In the late 1960’s a society was established, where those in a more fortunate position could contribute towards not only to helping the poor as a one off, but with the aim of providing them with access to tools such as education and training, that would hopefully in the longer term relieve them of poverty for good. This society proved a success; however, funds were desperately needed to not only keep this newly established society going, but also to help it to meet the needs of many more Muslims in the region. Hearing the plight of this society, a few learned individuals decided they would establish a charity here in the United Kingdom where representatives from around the country would collect donations and collectively transfer these funds to India, The Gujarat Muslim Association U.K. was born.

In 2011, The Gujarat Muslim Association U.K. also known as The GMA UK, successfully registered as a U.K Charity.
Today we have over 15 volunteers spread across the country, collecting funds under a 100% donation policy, where no money is taken out for administration or fundraising costs.
For the past 50 years, your kind donations have made a huge difference to the lives of hundreds of people residing in the Gujarat.
Over the years are funds have helped:
- Children reach their true potential in education and religious studies, so many have moved out of a life of poverty and gone on to become Doctors, Mechanics, Engineers etc.
- Women have received training on sewing, which has helped to provide them with a source of income.
